Soft Lettuce & Herb Salad

soft lettuces, veggies, pickled onion

The classic spring salad with "Green Goddess" dressing is an American classic from San Francisco's Palace Hotel circa 1923. It was Chef Philip Roemer's tribute to actor George Arliss and his hit play, "The Green Goddess." Tarragon and chives add fresh, herbal flavor to the creaminess of the dressing, which you toss with the lettuces, vegetables, and sharp pickled onion.

What People Are Saying

2 Stars
Too many herbs and not enough lettuce
1 Stars
Did not work for my palate.
3 Stars
Croutons very tough
4 Stars
Delicious and fresh; dressing was lovely. We will order again
4 Stars
The greens & beans were delicious but I found the texture of the croutons quite odd & couldn't get into them.
3 Stars
It was fine -- not very inventive. Wouldn't order again.
1 Stars
Those croutons were sooo weird texture wise...I think a typical crouton would be better...not the cornbread ones
3 Stars
There may have been mention of black-eyed peas but I missed it. Not a favorite. The cruteons should be packaged separately as the were very wet. And I know watercress is good, tastes great, but the LONG stems made eating difficult. Ok otherwise.
4 Stars
More dressing!
3 Stars
Put the croutons in a container on the side. They were soggy and some people may not want them.
2 Stars
Worst croutons I've ever had. Stale, horrible taste. Giving two stars since I still ate it (minus croutons). Dressing is really good, the salad is a salad. The long stems kept getting stuck in my throat. I agree with others, too, it's bitter.
1 Stars
Bitter - too much arugula? And what are those little yellow squares?
2 Stars
The dressing is good, but the taste of the bitter lettuce is overwhelming and takes over the salad.
4 Stars
Refreshing salad mix, crunchy radicchio and peppery watercress. Enough for two side salads.Only complaint: croutons were soggy and not good, substituted croutons from my pantry.
2 Stars
This was more of a vegan salad, with stale croutons. Calling it an HERB salad, I was expecting spring greens and actual herbs IN the salad. Cilantro, basil, fennel fronds, dill, all fantastic in a salad, not just the dressing. Rename or rework...
4 Stars
Odd density, texture, and decided lack of taste to the croutons. Otherwise it was wonderful.
4 Stars
Everything was amazing , except the soggy stake croutons.
3 Stars
Dressing wasn't to my taste. Otherwise good.
1 Stars
very bitter, stopped eating as the taste was off with the whole thing. My co-worker finished it for me and said it was ok to her.
2 Stars
Too much red cabbage? Croutons were not good. Spinach had stems. Dressing was best part.
2 Stars
Too much bitter stuff. It overwhelmed the dressing and the rest.

This salad is heavenly! Looks good and tastes even better. Love the texture of the buttery lettuce mixed with crunchy radicchio & radishes. The sweet pickled onions, tarragon and creamy dressing make this salad especially yummy.
