Every year, when the weather starts to warm up, I make weekly trips to the Union Square farmer's market. My favorite trip of the year is the first day local strawberries hit the market. It's basically like Christmas in June for me (well, Chanukah, actually, but you get my point).
Forget the strawberries you get at the supermarket. These local beauties are much smaller (some barely the size of a dime), so the insides of the berries are redder and the flavor is more concentrated, sweet and slightly tart.
I'm serving these fresh with a side of silky, rich vanilla bean creme anglaise sauce for dipping.
Get 'em while they last; these super-seasonal berries won't be around for long!
